Big Plans for Saudi-Egyptian Alliance

Comment on this article

Saudi Arabia and Egypt will build a massive bridge over the Red Sea, connecting their two countries. “Saudi Arabia regards Egypt as a crucial partner in efforts to build a bloc of friendly Sunni Muslim states as a bulwark against growing regional influence of Shia-led Iran” (BBC News, April 8, 2016). Saudi King Salmon and Egyptian President Sisi agreed that this historic step could ultimately connect the continents of Asia and Africa. It “will increase trade between the two continents to unprecedented levels” (ibid.). The bridge follows last year’s announcement from Egypt “to build a new capital to the east of the present one, Cairo… The announcement was made at an investment conference that aims to revive the Egyptian economy” (BBC News, March 13, 2015). At that time Egypt’s housing minister stated “We are talking about a world capital” (ibid.).

Since President Sisi took office, the Egypt-Saudi Arabia alliance has strengthened. The projects in the works will strengthen the regional power of Egypt and Saudi Arabia. Bible prophecy foretells that in the years ahead, a powerful “king of the south” (south of Jerusalem) will create a powerful kingdom that will eventually conflict with a European “king of the north” (Daniel 11:40-43). The budding alliance between wealthy Saudi Arabia and Egypt’s might (the most powerful military in the Middle East) could play a role in the fulfillment of this prophecy.
