The “Voice of Old”

A long time ago, a powerful ancient Egyptian ruler came to witness the power of a Being that was foreign to him. A voice said to this mighty Pharaoh, “Now if I had stretched out My hand and struck you and your people with pestilence, then you would have been cut off from the earth. But indeed for this purpose I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the earth” (Exodus 9:15–16).

Many years later, another leader of an empire was given a warning of a similar nature. King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream of which the prophet Daniel gave the interpretation. At the end of his explanation, Daniel provided the king with this powerful admonition:

This is the interpretation, O king, and this is the decree of the Most High, which has come upon my lord the king: They shall drive you from men, your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make you eat grass like oxen. They shall wet you with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over you, till you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He chooses (Daniel 4:24–25).

On November 21, 1981, Mr. Hosni Mubarak, the president of Egypt, met with a man named Herbert W. Armstrong, who at that time told him that peace in the Middle East would not come from man, but from the return of Jesus Christ and the establishment of the Kingdom of God. After that meeting, Mr. Armstrong wrote in The Plain Truth magazine of February, 1982, part of the conversation that he’d had with Mr. Mubarak:

The insolvable problems, troubles and sufferings are caused by a wrong way of life. But humanity has never learned the only way of life that can CAUSE happiness, peace and the rich blessings that are spiritual in nature. That way of life is GOD’S WAY OF LIFE…. We humans cannot bring peace by our own efforts. But God will intervene, send Christ in all the supreme POWER and GLORY of the Creator GOD, to set up the KINGDOM OF GOD, the super divine nation to rule all nations with GOD’S WAY OF LIFE. And that will CAUSE world peace, contentment, happiness, joy, and bring us ETERNAL LIFE!

That brings us to today. Is our time any different? In a recent article in Tomorrow’s World magazine, “Three Prophecies That Will Change Your Life,” evangelist Gerald Weston pointed out the following:

The first Trump administration was able to do something no one thought possible: It actually looked like peace would break out in the Middle East with the signing of the Abraham Accords, a series of agreements to normalize relations among Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Morocco—with the prospect that other Arab states would also sign on. This process continued into the Biden administration, and it looked as though Saudi Arabia and Israel were on the path toward normalizing relations. But then came the October 7, 2023, attack on Israel by Hamas terrorists, plunging the Middle East into turmoil once again. This second Trump administration will bring a significant change in direction regarding Israel and its enemies. Many are again hopeful that some level of peace can be achieved. However, the question remains: Can the new U.S. president bring lasting peace to that region? The answer is no—not according to Bible prophecy.

God is the same yesterday, today, and forever; He does not change. The Almighty God has declared from the foundation of the world what will come to pass (Isaiah 46:9–10). God’s plan will not be thwarted. He told us long ago that the Middle East would not know peace, that many nations would unite against Israel, and that Jerusalem would be surrounded by armies.

The prophecies of the Bible are real—they have come to pass in the past, and they will come to pass in the future. The “Voice of Old” cannot lie and will bring about the solution that you and the rest of humanity can never achieve: world peace.
