Israel allegedly attacks Syrian arms supply.

Last weekend, Israel allegedly attacked Iranian-made arms in Syria that were intended for Hezbollah in Lebanon (Jerusalem Post, May 6, 2013). The attack killed an unknown number of Syrian troops and prompted President Assad to threaten retaliation without warning (ibid.).

Speaking from a meeting in Budapest, German Foreign Minister Westerwelle remarked, “Israel has the legitimate right to defend itself… [Germany] stands by its commitment to the security of Israel.” He also clearly articulated that although Germany will support talks with Iran, it will not “accept a nuclear armed Iran” (Jerusalem Post, May 6, 2013). German support for Israel appears to be growing. 

The Pope has expressed interest in visiting Israel and the Israeli President warmly invited him for a visit (Catholic News Service, April 30, 2013).
