Today, biblical accounts are often viewed as nothing more than myths, legends and fairy tales devised to enthrall children. However, from time to time, even our “enlightened” scholars have difficulty explaining why the physical record just does not “add up.” New DNA research just released by a team of Australian researchers in the journal Nature Communications (a subsidiary of the prestigious scientific journal Nature), suggests that about 4,000-5,000 years ago, the genetic lineage of those living in Europe “mysteriously transformed” (Daily Mail, April 23, 2013).
One of the study authors, Alan Cooper, observed, “What is intriguing is that the genetic markers of this first pan-European culture, which was clearly very successful, were then suddenly replaced around 4,500 years ago, and we don’t know why” (emphasis ours) (ibid.).
While scientists strive to understand this mystery, God’s inspired word offers insights. The Bible records that a great flood occurred about 4,500 years ago. This was God’s punishment on the world of Noah’s day (c. 2300 BC) because of its wickedness. All but the eight people in the ark died (Genesis 6:17; 2 Peter 2:5) and the earth was repopulated with the genetic stock of Noah and his family.
This new research from Australia lends weight to the accuracy and reliability of God’s inspired word. For further evidence, read our insightful booklet, The Bible: Fact or Fiction?
