Have we as a society rejected God? Do we really worship and obey Him?
Almost 2,000 years ago, the Apostle Paul wrote about a people who would deny the true God, His Truth, and His sovereignty over all.
"For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse…" (Romans 1:18–20)
Do we today as society worship and follow God? Or do we worship things—cars, homes, jobs, money, status, philosophies, even our own pride or lust?
Paul explained that rejection of God will sink a society into debauchery: "…Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature" (Romans 1:24–26).
God created the family relationship to be the glue that binds society together. God created fathers and mothers to be the guides, caregivers and protectors of children. And yet, in our society, sexually-deviant behavior is becoming more and more commonplace—and it frequently harms children.
New York Times reporter Kurt Eichenwald recently completed a four-month investigation into the on-line activities and chat-rooms of Internet pedophiles. The results were chilling. In the late 1970s, because of legislation and aggressive law enforcement, child pornography was largely suppressed. However, the advent of the Internet has not only made pornographic material more pervasive, but it has also given pedophiles a greater ability to make contact with others who condone and encourage their behavior. As Eichenwald reports, this group has become a "complex and diversified community that uses the virtual world to advance its interests in the real one" ("On the Web, Pedophiles Extend Their Reach," Kurt Eichenwald, New York Times, August 21, 2006).
Under the guise of "support groups," pedophile chat-rooms devolve into places where proponents seek acceptance from others for their behavior. Experts point out this is the most dangerous part of the pedophile on-line community—the mollification of guilt and the rationalization of illegal acts. They often "demonize parents and other adults as cruel, unloving people who exert authoritarian control over children and stand in the way of minors' sexual freedom" (ibid.). Some pedophiles even go so far as saying that they are the true champions of the rights of children in society!
How have we as a society come to the place where we are today? What has gone wrong? We as a people have rejected God!
The Apostle Paul explained what the end results are for a people who have turned their backs on God: "And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a base mind and to improper conduct… Though they know God's decree that those who do such things deserve to die, they not only do them but approve those who practice them" (Romans 1:28, 32).
Something has gone seriously wrong in America and the Western world. And the result is an ever-growing moral chaos and confusion—through sin of every type—which will soon plunge our people into the worst time of trouble the world has ever known (Daniel 12:1).
But it's not too late—for you personally—to repent of your own personal sins! If you will accept His rule and sovereignty in your life, you don't have to suffer with a blind society headed for oblivion. God help you to understand His Truth. And God speed the day when Christ's Kingdom will be set up on earth, a Kingdom under which families—fathers, mothers, and protected and nurtured children—will all live God's way and enjoy the wonderful blessings of it!
