For almost 1500 years an idea has gripped the hearts and minds of European leaders such as Charlemagne, the Hapsburgs, Napoleon, even Hitler and Mussolini.
All embraced the idea of a great united "Christian" Europe under one rule, patterned after the pagan Roman Empire, which would be able to lead and make its voice heard in the world. Against great odds, they each managed to briefly unite large segments of Europe through military force. For a while, each in turn seemed invincible. Now a slightly different tactic is being used to bring about unity among Europe's disparate population. Since meetings in Brussels ended on June 23, 2007, a two-track "United Europe" of several core nations united as one, with many additional satellite nations, now appears to be on the horizon.
The treaty, due to be signed by the end of this year and to take effect in 2009, will create a new post of President of Europe; a High Representative on Foreign Policy; a single legal identity for the EU; and will extend majority voting (The Independent, 06/23/07).
German socialist MEP [Member, European Parliament] and constitutional affairs committee chief Jo Leinen gave a cautious welcome to the outline … He also noted that the results … will introduce a de facto "two-speed" Europe – an idea that MEPs "will have to get used to" (EUobserver, 06/25/07).
This core group could become the end-time Roman Empire, which will consist of ten nations, pictured as ten horns on a fearsome beast in Bible prophecy. The system will then continue for a short while, until the time of the appearance of the Messiah (Revelation 17:12-14).
Instead of despots like Napoleon or Hitler having first to unite militarily the nations of Europe before taking on the rest of the world, a united Europe will be in place when the right leader comes along! A nation made up of many divergent ethnic and national groups historically has but one way to survive – an iron-fisted central government!
The former Soviet dissident Vladimir Bukovsky refers to the EU as the "EUSSR." He does so, he explains, because the former USSR and the EU share the same goal: the obliteration of nations. "The European Union, like the Soviet Union, cannot be democratized," he says. If the EU becomes a genuine state it is bound to be an evil empire, because there is no European nation (Washington Times, 06/20/07).
The newest revival of the old Roman system, referred to in Bible prophecy as a "beast," will soon began to wield unimaginable military power. "…and they worshiped the beast, saying, 'Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?'" (Revelation 13:4).
The European Union on Wednesday dismissed criticism that its growing military role represented a threat to NATO, saying a new operations center being tested will benefit the trans-Atlantic alliance…
The center, which began work at the start of this year, has drawn criticism from some who see it as a revival of plans for an EU military headquarters separate from NATO. Such an idea was suggested by France and Germany at the height of trans-Atlantic tensions over the Iraq war… (Associated Press, 06/13/07).
Make no mistake, the sometimes well-meaning politicians of Europe have hammered out an agreement to go forward and rebuild the old Holy Roman Empire, and are in for a Frankenstein of a surprise. Bible prophecy shows that Europe will be hi-jacked by one last charismatic leader who will use its power to conquer the Jewish and British-descended peoples of the world, including the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, a host of islands and territories and even Britain itself.
